We receive many messages from all over of pigs in need of a new home. While we try to accommodate as many as we can with the space we currently have, when we come across a local pig needing a home, we make every last effort possible to take them in.
Otis is a pig who didn’t have to go far to his new forever home here at Piggins and Banks!
We scour the local Craigslist ads for available pigs in the Winchester, VA area every so often. In doing so this time we came across a posting for a pet pig looking for a new home.
Side note: If you have a pig you are looking to re-home please do not post them on Craigslist! There are many pig rehoming groups available that can help find your pig the best home possible. Contact us for for more info.
Otis’ family was looking to re-home him due to loneliness. Having him since he was a little piglet at 8 weeks old, he grew up very close with the family dog, a mastiff. However in May 2020 the mastiff passed away and ever since then the family said Otis would not come out of his shelter and seemed very lonely and sad. They decided it would be best for him to go to a home that had other pigs that he could be friends and socialize with.
We reached out to Otis’ family within hours of their Craigslist posting and they were delighted that we could take him in. They quickly removed the ad and arranged for us to pick up up a few days later.
Otis is now a forever member of the Piggins and Banks pig family! He is in a dedicated pen of his own as he acclimates to his new surroundings (this helps reduce initial fighting to establish pecking order when introducing new pigs to each other). In a month or so he will be placed with a friend or two giving him the companionship he desires. He is already happy getting to know the other pigs through the fencing through smelling and snout touching.
Help Support Otis
We are able to take in pigs like this because of support from people like you! Every pig we take in results in another mouth to feed, veterinary appointment to schedule, and more…all of which cost money. Please consider making a small donation or even sponsoring Otis as a virtual pig parent. All donations make a positive difference in the lives of our pig residents.
