Many pigs out there are re-homed for a variety of reasons. Family circumstances have changed, pig was too much for the owner to handle, and so on. But it is the pigs out there that are forgotten and abandoned that we try our best to take in and give a permanent home to.
Our newest resident, who we named Bobbi, is one of those pigs. Found wondering the country side of southern Virginia, she was picked up by animal control there and unclaimed. No one reported a missing pig. No one came looking for her. She was simply forgotten by the world. No one cared about her.
Enter the SPCA of Pittsylvania County. Given the pig by animal control, they started looking for a home for this forgotten pig. Through the network of pig advocate Christopher Kirtley, they reached out to us asking if we could give the pig a home. Of course we could!
The SPCA of Pittsylvania County was absolutely wonderful to work with. They provided transport for Bobbi the pig to our location (over 3 hours from their facility) and even contributed a donation towards having her spayed in the near future.
Within a few days Bobbi has become “one of the pigs” here. At first frightened of any human contact, she now lets us pet her gently and always has her tale wagging at mealtimes.
Help Support Bobbi
We are able to take in pigs like this because of support from people like you! Every pig we take in results in another mouth to feed, veterinary appointment to schedule, and more…all of which cost money. Please consider making a small donation or even sponsoring Bobbi as a virtual pig parent. All donations make a positive difference in the lives of our pig residents.
