Rosita from New Jersey Joins the Piggins and Banks Family

We would like to welcome Rosita to our loving pig family! She comes from the area of Paterson, New Jersey (close to New York City). Her family was given her as a gift and loved her very much, however they found out that pigs were not allowed in the area where their residence was located. Desperate to find her a good home, they reached out to one of the many helpful pig re-homing groups on Facebook.

The posting we saw on social media by a pig rehoming group looking to help Rosita.

Many of these groups do a fantastic job of screening potential adoptions so people know what they are getting into when they say they will take in a pig. Being a 501(c)(3) nonprofit pig sanctuary, we are on many of their lists for potential pig placement. We happened to stumble across Rosita’s posting one afternoon and said we would be happy to take her if we could meet halfway (since Paterson, NJ is close to 5 hours from us). Rosita’s owner was happy to meet us halfway in Bethel, PA the very next day since they knew their sweet pig would be going to a place to live forever with other pigs.

Rosita in her new home at Piggins and Banks.

Upon picking her up and bringing her back to her forever home here at Piggins and Banks we knew we had one of the sweetest pigs you will ever meet. Rosita is very calm and loves to be pet. You can tell her owners spent a great deal of time with her as she has no problem with human interaction. Currently she is in her own pen getting used to her new home and other pig friends that she can see and smell close by.

She does have a bit of a walking issue (as if her front legs never formed correctly from birth) but it is not a major problem for her getting around. It is something we will have the vet take a look at when she goes in for her spay appointment on December 23, 2020.

Help us care for Rosita

We are able to take in pigs like this because of support from people like you! Every pig we take in results in another mouth to feed, veterinary appointment to schedule, and more…all of which cost money. Please consider making a small donation to help out Rosita. All donations make a positive difference in the lives of our pig residents.
