Rescued Pig Doesn’t Have to “Journey” Far to New Home

We take pigs in from far and wide but sometimes they come to us from very close to home. Journey, who was located in Berryville, Virginia (roughly 45 minutes from our location) did not have to travel far, but had quite an emotional “journey” to get to this point.

Journey’s previous owner came to have her when she was just a piglet (over 2 years ago). After raising her into adulthood, the owner was diagnosed with cancer. The owner’s niece, Amanda, agreed to take in Journey while the owner received cancer treatment fully intending to take the pig back once she recovered. Sadly the owner passed away in February 2020 leaving Journey heart-broken and Amanda with no room to give the pig adequate space.

Journey the pig…always calm, quiet, and happy.

After searching around for places who take in pigs, Amanda was delighted to find us and learn that Journey would have a forever home among other pigs so close to home. We made a short trip out to pick up Journey one Sunday morning and found her to be an absolute sweetheart of a pig. She is kind, gentle, calm, and an absolute wonderful pig to be around. We were more than happy to welcome her as a permanent resident of Piggins and Banks!

Help Support Journey

We are able to take in pigs like this because of support from people like you! Every pig we take in results in another mouth to feed, veterinary appointment to schedule, and more…all of which have significant costs. Please consider making a small donation or even sponsoring Journey as a virtual pig parent. All donations make a positive difference in the lives of our pig residents. Should you choose to sponsor Journey, you receive a welcome packet, some keepsakes, on-demand updates about her, and even a free ticket to one of our guided tours so you can meet her in person!
