Sally the Kune Kune pig comes to us from the Morgan County Animal Control in Berkley Springs, West Virginia. She was found abandoned by her previous owners at a foreclosed property.
Her obviously distinguishing feature is that she only has one ear. In talking to neighbors, Animal Control learned that she apparently lost her one ear during a dog attack.
NOTE: This is an important reminder of why dogs and pigs should never, ever be left unsupervised together (even with well trained dogs). In the animal world pigs are prey, dogs are predators…so their instinct cannot be dismissed. For example our two dogs at Piggins and Banks, despite being around pigs for many years, are still never left alone with them. It only takes one time for something bad to happen.
After seized by animal control and having no one claim Sally the pig, they reached out to us since we are located just down the road across the border in Virginia. While at capacity, we had to make room for this sweet pig due to how close she was and needing some extra love since she only has one ear. Also we have a soft spot in our hearts for Kune Kune pigs as that was the breed of one of our most beloved pigs, Mick (who passed away in 2021).
Sally is currently being kept in her own pen for a few weeks until we can get her acclimated to her new surroundings and scheduled for a spay appointment. She is definitely a sassy girl as when it is feeding time, she is right at the gate trying with all her might to open it!
Please join us in welcoming Sassy One-Eared Sally! ❤️🐷
