The importance of having pets spayed and neutered cannot be over-stated. Not only does it create a healthier life for the animal but also prevents out-of-control accidental breeding. This is a big problem in the pig world. It only takes a moment for a male pig to impregnate a female pig resulting in more baby pigs that may never find a loving home.
The Harrisonburg Four as we call them (since they came from Harrisonburg, Virginia) are the result of an unfixed male pig getting loose and impregnating a neighboring female pig. With the owner of the female pig not knowing what to do, a kind individual named Sara Harper took it upon herself to try and find permanent homes for the four piglets. She reached out asking if we could give a home to the four piglets. Luckily we had space for them and were able to help!
Sara was able to pay to have two of the male piglets neutered prior to them arriving here, and we took care of having the remaining male and female fixed shortly after. All four piglets have blended in wonderfully with the Madison pig pen crew including Hamilton, Peter, Hulk, and the rest!
Let’s meet the Harrisonburg Four!
Freddie
Freddie is the most outgoing of the bunch! He is super friendly and is always in the mix of it at mealtime with the other pigs. He also will let you pet him during mealtime. His distinguishing features are his two front high white legs and back white toes.
Ricky
Ricky is the most cautious of the four. He likes to keep a distance and watch. While still friendly, he is not fond of being touched or pet. You can tell him apart from Freddie as all four of his legs are white.
Flora
The lone sister of the Harrisonburg Four, Flora is a sweetheart and does her best to keep her brothers in line! You can pick her out from her brothers by her front left foot which has a bit of white on it.
Bruiser
Last but not least is Bruiser! His coloring is all black. Like Ricky, he is more of a stand back and watch sort of pig and not super fond of pets and touching.
